How Should You Prepare Your Kitchen for a Deep Cleaning in Austin, TX?

What to clear, decide, and tell us before an Austin kitchen deep clean, and the prep steps you can skip entirely.

Kitchen prep is less about cleaning before the cleaners arrive and more about clearing the way so the hours go into surfaces instead of obstacles. A kitchen with eight small appliances on the counter gives a crew maybe a third of that counter to work with, and the rest gets wiped around.

Our crews clean Austin kitchens daily and the pattern is consistent. The households that get the most from a deep clean are the ones that spent fifteen minutes clearing horizontal surfaces, not the ones that pre-scrubbed anything. Pre-scrubbing is wasted effort. Clearing is not.

‍

Clear the Counters Before the Crew Arrives

Counters and the backsplash behind them are where a deep clean shows most, and both are blocked by whatever lives on the counter permanently. Toasters, blenders, knife blocks, mail piles, and the fruit bowl all sit on surfaces that need access. Moving them into a cabinet or onto the dining table for a few hours is the single highest-value thing you can do.

The sink matters for the same reason. Our standard kitchen checklist includes cleaning and drying the sink and soap dish, and loading the dishwasher is part of that checklist, but hand-washing dishes is not.

A sink holding two days of dishes becomes a sink the crew works around. Our one-time deep cleaning service is priced on the property rather than on the hour, so clearing obstacles buys you depth rather than savings.

Decide on Appliance Interiors Ahead of Time

Appliance exteriors are standard. Interiors are add-ons, and the distinction catches people out on the day. Deciding at booking lets the crew carry the right time allowance for the visit instead of finding a full oven on arrival.

Add-on Decide before booking because Your prep
Interior refrigerator Requires emptying and time for shelves and drawers Remove food or group it so shelves clear quickly
Interior oven Needs dwell time for buildup to release Remove racks, trays, and anything stored inside
Inside cabinets and drawers Contents must come out before surfaces are reachable Empty what you want cleaned, leave the rest closed
Interior windows Sill and frame access matters as much as glass Clear the sill and move anything on the ledge

Deciding now also prevents the most common disappointment, which is assuming the fridge interior was included and finding it was not. Request add-ons at booking rather than mentioning them to the crew at the door.

Add what you want while you book rather than after. The instant quote adjusts for add-ons as you select them, so the price you see already accounts for them.

Handle Dishes and Food Storage

Food is the one category where a crew genuinely cannot make the call for you. A cleaner will not throw out a container of leftovers or decide a jar has turned, which means anything ambiguous stays exactly where it is.

Fifteen minutes on these items changes what the crew can reach:

  • Run or empty the dishwasher so the sink and counter clear
  • Move food off the counter and into cabinets or the pantry
  • Bag anything you want discarded, since we do not remove trash
  • Clear the stovetop of pots, kettles, and cooking tools
  • Pull anything stored inside the oven if you booked that add-on

Crews use discretion around dirty dishes and work around piled items rather than relocating them, noting what was unreachable so you know what was skipped. That note is more useful than a crew quietly guessing what you wanted moved. Our guide to deep cleaning kitchen surfaces covers the order the work actually runs in.

‍

Tell Us About Surfaces That Need Care

Kitchens carry more finish variety than any other room. Natural stone, sealed and unsealed grout, painted and stained cabinet fronts, stainless with a grain direction, and induction glass all respond differently, and a surface with an unusual sealer or a known weak spot is worth flagging before anyone starts.

You can also supply a specific product if you prefer one for a particular surface. Crews bring their own supplies and equipment to every job, residential or commercial, and will use what you provide when you have a preference. Tell the office at booking rather than handing it to the crew at the door, so the note travels with the job rather than living in one cleaner's memory.

‍

What You Do Not Need to Do

No special preparation is required, and that is worth saying plainly because people over-prepare. You do not need to buy supplies, stock anything, clean before the clean, move heavy furniture, or be home while the work happens.

Entry can run on a garage code, a lockbox, or an alarm code left at booking, and any key or code you share stays on file with our office rather than with an individual cleaner. You also do not need to strip the kitchen bare. The target is clear horizontal surfaces and a decision on add-ons, not an empty room.

Anything beyond that is effort you are spending on work you already paid someone else to do, and our walkthrough on preparing your whole home beforehand applies the same thinking to the rest of the property.

Spend fifteen minutes clearing, then leave the rest to the crew. Reschedule free up to 24 hours ahead if the day stops working for you.
