Picking the right window cleaner in Austin can be confusing. See what to check before you book, then call us about your inside glass.

Interior and exterior window cleaning are two different purchases, and hiring one company for both is where Austin homeowners usually go wrong. Inside glass is routine work a cleaning crew handles, but outside glass (especially above the ground floor) is height work needing ladders, water-fed poles, or rope access, plus the insurance to match.

Tidy Hands Cleaners provides licensed cleaning services across Austin, TX, and we're pretty straightforward about where the split falls. Interior windows sit on our add-on list, while exterior glass sits on our published list of work we just don't take.

‍

Sorting Out What You Are Actually Buying

Walk the house before you call anyone, that part's on you. Most people who say they need window cleaning actually need one of three different things, and the price gap between them is wide. Figuring out which one you've got first saves you a call to the wrong trade and probably some money too.

Interior glass is the first, covering fingerprints on patio doors, dust on sills and ledges, and smudges at toddler height. This is routine housekeeping work, carrying no height risk, and it's almost always cheaper as an add-on than as a standalone booking.

Exterior glass is the second, and that's where hard water spotting, pollen film, and general Central Texas grime live. Restoration is the third, covering paint overspray, construction residue, dried cement, and hard water etching left long enough to bond, and that's specialist work general cleaners just can't fix.

What you need Who does it Typical booking
Interior glass, sills, ledges House cleaning service Add-on to a scheduled clean
Exterior glass, ground floor Window cleaning specialist Standalone, seasonal
Exterior glass, upper floors Specialist rated for height work Standalone, insured
Overspray, etching, cement Restoration specialist One-off, quoted on inspection

Sorting this first means you talk to the right trade first, which saves everyone some back-and-forth. It also stops you from paying a specialist premium for work a cleaning crew was already in the house to handle. The wider case for why window cleaning matters applies to both halves, but the hiring process really does not.

‍

The Non-Negotiables for Exterior Work

Exterior window cleaning above the ground floor is height work, plain and simple. Height work is where the real liability sits. These checks aren't optional, and any company that hesitates on them should be off your list.

  • General liability insurance, with a current certificate available on request.
  • Workers' compensation for anyone going up a ladder on your property. An uninsured injury on your premises becomes your problem.
  • A stated method for your house. Ladder, water-fed pole, or rope access, and why that suits your elevation.
  • Screening of the people attending. Exterior work still means someone on your property, often at bedroom windows.
  • A written scope covering whether frames, tracks, sills, and screens are included, because those are frequently quoted separately.

That last point catches more people than the others combined. A quote covering glass only, on a house where the tracks are packed with oak pollen, leaves a job that looks half finished.

This also matters at move-out, where a move-in and move-out cleaning service usually spells out upfront whether tracks and screens are included, same as it should here. Ask specifically, and get the answer in writing.

What Austin Weather Does to Glass

Local conditions decide how often exterior cleaning actually earns its cost, and Austin is harder on glass than most markets for two reasons that compound each other. Hard water is the main culprit in most Austin neighborhoods, honestly.

Sprinkler overspray hitting the same windows over and over leaves mineral deposits, and if that sits long enough, it etches right into the glass surface. Once etching sets in, cleaning will not remove it, and a beginner's guide to cleaning windows can only take you so far before you need someone experienced.

Adjusting sprinkler heads away from the house is far cheaper than replacing a pane, worth remembering. Then there's pollen, which is relentless here, you'll notice it on every windowsill.

Cedar runs December into February, oak takes spring, grass follows into summer, and ragweed closes out the year. Glass and frames collect all of it, and the film that builds up just doesn't rinse off.

Summer heat adds a practical wrinkle on top of that. Cleaning glass in direct afternoon sun means the solution dries before it can be squeegeed, which leaves exactly the streaking the job was supposed to remove.

Good exterior crews work shaded elevations or early hours in July and August. If a company books you for 2 pm on a west-facing wall in high summer, that tells you something about how they schedule, maybe more than their sales pitch does.

Where a House Cleaning Service Fits

Interior windows sit naturally inside a broader visit, because the crew's already in the room with supplies out. At Tidy Hands, interior window cleaning is selectable on any booking. It sits alongside the interior refrigerator, interior oven, ceiling fans, inside cabinets, and dishwasher loading.

Glass and mirrors are cleaned and buffed as standard on every service tier, and sills, frames, and blinds get dusted too, with blinds and ledges wet-wiped on a deep clean.

One service includes interior glass rather than offering it as an option, and that's move-in and move-out cleaning. Properties changing occupants get interior windows in scope.

This service also includes cleaning inside cabinets and drawers, doors and frames, the hood range, and a garage sweep on request. The reason is practical, not generous, since lease inspections check glass, and a standard visit just isn't scoped for a full property reset.

What we will not do is quote for the outside of an upstairs window, and honestly, be wary of any general cleaning company that would. Our published exclusions say it plainly: no exterior windows, and nothing that can't be reached from the ground.

A company willing to improvise on height work is telling you something about how it handles risk generally. If your issue is construction residue instead, that's restoration work, not general cleaning, and it needs its own quote.
